What is a "bash"?

What is a "bash"?

You have probably heard of Bash Guard, but you are not quite sure what it is used for?

So, let us explain everything.

Why have one?

The bash, short for the English term Bashguard, is a disc whose main purpose is to absorb impacts during a drop or obstacle crossing, or deflect projections when riding your MTB (stones, branches, logs, etc...), in order to avoid damaging your chainrings and in particular the teeth. Due to its position, it can also help limit outward derailment, but this is not its primary function.

The bash can be fitted either in place of the large chainring or to the right of your single chainring.

Several models are available on the market and you will have the choice from several materials: carbon fibre, steel, polyurethane or aluminium, the latter being the most common.
