Pedal Velo - Automatic pedals

THE pedals represent one of the 3 contact points between the cyclist and his road bike (with the hanger and the saddle). Flat pedals, we went to the foot holds and then to the automatic pedals in the 80s thanks to the Look company, which recovered its ski fixing system to adapt it to cycling. Today most road bikes are equipped with automatic pedals: these bring more performance and stability comfort in the pedaling while allowing rapid "officering" in the event of a stop or fall.

Velo pedal - a particular system

The route pedals of the main manufacturers use (apart from speedplay) all the same system with a few differences. This consists according to the same system as the ski fixation, to engage the hold on the front of the pedal before "clipping" with the back of the hold thanks to the spring located on the back of the pedal. The "declipping" is done by turning the heel outwards. Angular freedom is managed by settings on the pedal or by a change of hold depending on the brands. The speedplay system differs a little from the others since there are 2 signs of trigger, as on mountain bike pedals, and the spring as well as the settings for angular freedom are located on the hold. There is no longer any need to necessarily start by the front of the pedal.
