Boost your performance with energy gels

Nutrition is an essential element of your sporting performance in cycling. Indeed, what you ingest will provide the fuel you need to reach your sporting goals, particularly during exercise. In preparation, your nutrition plan must always be planned ahead. Energy gels are consumed only on the bike and are not effective for recovery. In sport, the cyclist must refuel to meet their needs. The gel is part of a nutrition strategy designed to maintain a high energy level during your cycling outing. It provides the carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals your body needs for sports nutrition.

The benefits of energy gels

Energy gels offer several benefits. Practical for sport, they are easy to carry in your pockets or in your bags, in the same way as energy bars. What's more, they are simple to use, with a small format that packs a maximum amount of energy. Easy to open, a simple squeeze is all it takes to fuel yourself during exercise. The texture requires no chewing for better digestion. A real advantage for refuelling during a race or high-intensity training session.

Fast energy during exercise

Often associated with sporting activity, energy gels provide an immediate boost thanks to their high content of fast-acting sugars. Once you have consumed your first energy gel, you need to maintain a high blood sugar level by regularly taking in sugar to avoid hitting the wall. As the primary energy source for muscles, carbohydrate reserves are depleted after several hours of effort. It is therefore essential to replenish them to maintain intensity during your sport. It is recommended to consume 60g/h of carbohydrates during exercise if your outing exceeds two hours. A nutrition tailored to your needs, will also improve your recovery. Of course, you should vary your diet, especially for your health. It is not recommended to fuel yourself exclusively on energy gels. During your preparation, gels can be consumed in training to get used to them and avoid digestive issues in competition. Also, their use can be complemented with a sip of water to help wash down the sweet texture. From a health perspective, energy gels are in no way a substitute for a healthy, balanced diet.
