Inner tube – The soul of the tyre!

The inner tube bike appeared at the same time as the tyre. Legend has it that it was Edouard Michelin who invented it in 1891 after an English cyclist asked him for help repairing his punctured tubular tyre. The tyre & inner tube system does indeed make it easier to repair in the event of a puncture. To repair a tyre, simply replace the inner tube or apply a puncture patch on the punctured inner tube whereas a tubular tyre needs to be unstitched and then restitched!

Inner tube – A practical system

The inner tube is therefore positioned between the tyre and the rim (the latter being covered with a rim tape) and acts as a fuse in the event of a puncture. There is no need to remove the tyre completely to repair or replace it. 2 tyre levers are enough to disengage the tyre on one side of the rim to grab the inner tube and put it back. The inner tubes available on Probikeshop.fr are suited to different wheel diameters (650 or 700) and tyre widths (generally from 19 to 28 on road bikes).

Inner tube – Which one to choose?

The inner tube is not just a matter of section and diameter. There are now many types of inner tubes on Probikeshop.fr to meet the needs of every rider. Butyl inner tubes for those who prioritise reliability, ultra-light inner tubes for competitors, latex inner tubes for better feel… you should also pay attention to the valve length when buying inner tubes to make sure they are compatible with the height of your rims.
