Even though they are becoming increasingly rare on MTBs, there are still a few bikes, particularly leisure MTBs, fitted with V-brake rim pads.
The standards
When choosing your MTB brake pads, you need to take into account:
- Types of holders: classic or cartridge
- Compound qualities and materials
Types of V-Brake pads
The assembly standard between the pad and the V-brake calliper being unique, you cannot go wrong (not to be confused with the Cantilever system).
You can choose between classic or cartridge brake pads. The latter consists of a metal holder into which just the rubber block fits. You simply need to replace it when worn without having to redo the complete brake pad alignment, as is the case with so-called classic models.
Depending on the brand, you will find different compound qualities depending on weather conditions and your expectations in terms of performance or durability.
