Standards
- The type of freewheel body Shimano or Singlespeed.
Singlespeed types
- If you're going to convert a conventional cassette hub to Singlespeed, you'll need a special kit comprising a sprocket with the gearing of your choice and a set of spacers to compensate for the lack of thickness.
- If you have a Singlespeed cassette body, you'll simply need to fit a sprocket of your choice.
- If your MTB frame frame is not designed for Singlespeed mounting, you'll need a chain tensioner to ensure proper chain tension. MTB chain chain tension in place of the derailleur.
Which Singlespeed toothing should I choose?
This is a difficult question to answer, since it depends on your physical ability. But generally speaking, you'll find the following types of assembly:
- 26" MTB wheel 18-tooth sprocket with 33-tooth chainring.
- 27.5" MTB wheel 18-tooth sprocket with 32-tooth chainring.
- 29" MTB wheel 19-tooth sprocket with 32-tooth chainring.
