How to cut and fit mountain bike brake hoses?

Pressure in the brake circuit can reach high levels, so it's important to fit your brake hoses correctly. hoses to avoid any problems. Here's how to do it on your ATV.

Steps

Please note: depending on the brand, the procedure may differ. It's best to consult the manufacturer's manual of your mountain bike brakes

  1. Cut the hose to the desired length using a hose cutter.

  2. Place the dust cover A4then the compression nut A3 and finally the olive A2 on the hose.
    Probikeshop tip: it's important to follow this order, otherwise you risk not being able to fit the parts afterwards.

  3. Place the insert A1 into the end of the hose. For some brands, such as Sram/Avid, the insert is screwed in, while for others, such as Shimano, it simply needs to be forced in, holding the hose in place with a special tool.

  4. Position the assembly in the lever, then, while holding the hose against the lever, start screwing on the compression nut by hand.

  5. Check that the assembly is securely in place, then tighten the nut to the torque specified by the manufacturer.
    Probikeshop tip: Tightening torque is generally low (between 5 and 7 N.m depending on the model). Be sure to follow these instructions to avoid damaging the system.

Your hose is now installed, but not yet operational. Before going out on the road, you'll need to bleed the hydraulic system. This procedure varies according to brand (see related tips below).
