How to mount your MTB shock absorber?

You're about to mount your new MTB shock absorber just delivered? Here's a video to help you get it right.

Steps

  1. Strap the rear arm of your frame so that it won't move when you take the shock out, and to make disassembly easier.

  2. Remove the two shock mounting pins, then pull the shock out of the frame.

  3. Fit the new dry spacers to your new shock using the appropriate tool.

  4. Refit the new shock to the frame.
    Probikeshop tip: fit fixing screws with low or medium thread-lock after degreasing them.

  5. Empty the air from the shock absorber, then work the suspension to ensure it doesn't touch the frame tubes.

Set the correct pressure for your weight, so as to obtain a SAG The amount of sag in a suspension when the rider is on the static bike in the riding position.

Typical SAG percentages are : 

  • 15% and 20% for Rando, Cross-Country, etc.
  • 20% and 30% for All-Mountain, Enduro
  • 30% and 35% for DH / Freeride

    Your shock mounting is now complete. Remember to lubricate the plunger regularly to maintain sensitivity and protect your equipment.
