A fairly straightforward operation, fitting a cassette is within everyone's reach if you have the specific tools.
- Time: 15 min
- Level: Easy
- Tools: Chain whip | Cassette tool (Shimano/Sram or Campagnolo depending on your cassette) | Torque wrench
Steps
First, remove the rear wheel, then take out the quick release.
- Hold the cassette in place with the chain whip to prevent it from turning
- Undo the central lock ring using the cassette tool.
- Remove the cassette from the freehub body.
- Clean and then grease the freehub body.
Probikeshop tip: Take the opportunity to check the condition of the freehub body.
- Install the new cassette.
Probikeshop tip: Note that the splines on the freehub body act as a guide to correctly position the sprockets.
- Finally, tighten the new central lock ring to the torque specified by the manufacturer
After a few rides, check the tightness of the cassette — it may still be settling into place.
