How to fit road bike levers?

This is a relatively simple operation. Here's how to mount your levers yourself.

  • Time : 30 min
  • Level : Easy
  • Tools : Allen key set | Level | Measuring tape

Steps

  1. First, put on the lever on the handlebars.

  2. Place it in line with the bikePosition it so that the top of the cocotte protrudes 1 to 2 cm above the handlebars. The aim is for the handlebar/cowl connection and the bottom of the handlebar to be as close as possible to parallel with the ground.

  3. Tighten the clamp bolt to the lowest torque specified by the gear or handlebar manufacturer.
Probikeshop tip: Make sure you use the lowest tightening torque to avoid damaging the handlebars during assembly or when falling.

  4. Repeat steps 1 to 3 to fit the other lever, ensuring that the 2 levers are parallel and at the same height.
Probikeshop tip: use the graduations on the handlebars or, failing that, a spirit level.

Now that you've assembled your components, all you need to do is fit your handlebar tapes and adjust your derailleurs.
