Obtaining your
type approval certificate
The type approval certificate, or certificate of conformity, is a document that provides several pieces of information about your bike. It serves as an identity card, specific to the brand and year of your bike.
It will be essential for taking out bicycle insurance or justifying your purchase to obtain a grant.

3. WHAT IS A SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY PACKAGE?
The maximum amount of the FMB is set at €500 per year per employee, and can be combined with schemes covering public transport subscriptions.
Enshrined in the Mobility Orientation Act of 24 December 2019, the sustainable mobility package does not only apply to cycling. It is activated with other virtuous modes of transport: carpooling, shared mobility services, and public transport.
At present, there is no employer assistance for purchasing an electric bike. However, if you use your bike (electric or otherwise) for your daily commute to work, the sustainable mobility package allows you to claim reimbursement of travel costs between your home and your workplace.
An optional scheme offered to companies to encourage the use of alternative modes of transport, the FMB came into force on 10 May 2020, at the end of the first lockdown. The sum paid under the sustainable mobility package is exempt from social security contributions for the employer and from income tax for the employee.
The terms for implementing the FMB can be decided within the company with or without a collective agreement. It should be noted that the sustainable mobility package is a more flexible scheme than the IKV, not tied to systematic reimbursement of kilometres cycled. This package can take different forms:
- A flat-rate amount conditional on a certain level of cycling.
- Contribution to actual costs incurred (purchase of accessories, maintenance costs…).
- A flat-rate amount per kilometre travelled or per number of days ridden.
- A continuation of the IK scheme.
