How to choose MTB bar ends?

Often nicknamed "horns", bar ends are optional hand rests that are positioned perpendicularly at the end of the MTB handlebar. They come in different shapes and sizes to suit your needs.

Standards

  • Standard single fitting diameter identical to grips or control levers
  • Length

Types of bar ends

Always supplied in pairs, this device a is quite simple, it fits at the end of the handlebar b in the same way as a gear shifter or a MTB brake lever, with a bolt clamp system.

For the length c, there are either shorter models (between 60 and 85 mm) giving you just a temporary position for a better grip during a hard effort, or longer models (90 mm and above) offering you a true 2nd comfortable position on your bike.

Which bar ends should you choose?

Bar ends are only fitted to leisure MTBs, hardtail MTBs or full-suspension MTBs for Cross-Country riding. In the first case, you can opt for short or long bar ends depending on your needs, whereas in the second case, it is preferable to choose short ones.

Please note that some carbon handlebars cannot accept bar ends — refer to the handlebar manual if in doubt.
