Visit MTB headset is a wearing part that must be regularly serviced and even replaced to ensure good steering. Ready, set, go!

  • Time : 1h00
  • Level : Difficult
  • Tools : Grease | Fork cone plug (for models with non-split ring) | Bowl squeezer | Hammer

Steps

  1. Thread the fork cone around the pivot by hand until it snaps into place. For models with a split ring, it will position itself without the need for step 2 (i.e. without the need to use the fork cone press).
Probikeshop tip: the conical part should be facing upwards, in contact with the bearing.
  2. Finish pressing it onto the pivot by tapping moderately, but firmly, on the cone sleeve.
Probikeshop tip: to make assembly easier, you can apply a little grease.
  3. Grease the inlets to the headset bushes, then place the bare headset cups in them.
  4. Press the cups into the frame using the cup press until they are in contact with the frame.
Probikeshop tip: Throughout this delicate operation, make sure the cups are pressed straight into the frame.
  5. Grease the bearing housings before fitting them. Probikeshop tip: pay attention to mounting direction.
  6. Thread the fork into the frame and fit the washer/cover assembly as described in your headset manual. Then reassemble your headset.

The headset is now mounted. You'll need to adjust it before going out on the road. ATV.
