How to choose your MTB grips?

How to choose your MTB grips?

MTB grips optimise the feel of your MTB handlebar and therefore the sensations during riding, as well as comfort. If you choose them well, they can be a game changer on your MTB rides!

The standards

  • The diameter of the MTB handlebar
  • The mounting system: classic or Lock-On
  • The grip thickness

Types of grips

The mounting diameter is standardised. Since they are installed at the end of the handlebar, they all have an inner diameter of 22.2 mm.

Regarding the mounting system, you can find the classic A model where the grip is directly fitted onto the handlebar; and the Lock-On system B which is a rigid plastic body onto which the grip is moulded, fitted with one or two clamp collars. The Lock-On system makes it easier to install and remove grips

The grip range is expanding and new models with different thicknesses are now available to best suit the hand morphology of each rider.

Which grips should you choose?

If you prefer ease of installation, you should opt for Lock-On models. There are different types of materials (foam, rubber, Kraton, silicone) and patterns (chevron, diamond, smooth) that will determine comfort, grip and vibration absorption.
