Choosing the right seatpost shouldn't be rushed. Apart from the aesthetic aspect, this device contributes greatly to your comfort on the bike. Here are a few tips.
Standards
To choose the right seatpost, you need to consider the following characteristics:
- Diameter
- length
- Shape: straight or receding
- Material
Types of seat posts
The first thing to consider is the diameter of the stem itself. This should not be confused with the diameter of the saddle clamp which has nothing to do with it, since it can change according to the thickness of the tubes used by the frame manufacturer.
Next comes the length. This must be sufficiently long to obtain the "bottom bracket axle-seat post" distance required for your measurements, while still being at least 10 cm inside the frame to ensure the sturdiness of the assembly.
Probikeshop tip: a seatpost longer than necessary will often stiffen your frame and therefore reduce comfort, or even bump into the frame before you reach the desired seat height. It's therefore advisable to take the strict length you need, or the nearest value to it.
Concerning the shape of the stemrecoil a will have a direct impact on your riding position. In concrete terms, it extends the distance between the saddle and the cockpit. b if you find your bike a little short. Beware, however, that moving backwards will also modify your position in relation to the crankset: too far back and your posture won't be ideal for developing all the power you've got. Stems straight offer no adjustment, but provide greater resistance and optimal power transmission.
Finally, you'll have to choose seatpost material In addition to being very light, carbon provides a high level of comfort. Aluminum may be less comfortable, but it's also much cheaper and almost as light. If you're not satisfied with aluminum for comfort, the flexibility of titanium will certainly suit you, while keeping the weight down.
Which seatpost to choose?
It's all a question of sizeIf you're looking for a particularly light seatpost, choose carbon. If you want a particularly light seatpost, opt for carbon; if your priority is comfort, look to titanium. Otherwise, aluminum is often the best value for money.
