How to fit mountain bike triggers?

This operation is relatively simple to perform on your MOUNTAIN BIKE. Here's how to do it yourself.

  • Time : 15 min
  • Level : Easy
  • Tools : Allen wrench set | Dial gauge or tape measure | Torque wrench

Steps

If you're replacing old ones mountain bike shiftersyou will first have to dismantle any other components installed on the handlebars: gripsbrake levers, suspension locks or seatpost locks, etc.

  1. Thread the speed control first onto the MTB handlebars
  2. Then place the brake lever and grip.
  3. Adjust the distance between the trigger and the grip so that it doesn't interfere with your ability to hold the handlebars steady, but is still close enough to allow you to pull the trigger quickly.
  4. Finally, orient the control in the axis of your arms for the most natural use possible.
  5. Tighten the trigger collar screw to the lowest torque specified by the gear or handlebar manufacturer.
Probikeshop tip: make sure you use the lowest tightening torque to avoid damaging the handlebars during installation or in the event of a fall.
  6. Repeat steps 1 to 5 to fit the other shifter. Use a ruler to place the components at the same distance on both sides of the handlebars.

The triggers are now mounted. All that's left is to set your derailleurs.
