How to fit road bike levers?

How to fit road bike levers?

This is a relatively straightforward operation. Here is how to fit your levers yourself.

  • Time: 30 min
  • Level: Easy
  • Tools: Allen key set | Level | Tape measure

Steps

  1. First, slide the lever onto the handlebar.

  2. Position it in line with the bike axis, so that the top of the hood extends between 1 and 2 cm above the handlebar. The aim is for the handlebar/hood junction and the bottom of the handlebar to be as parallel to the ground as possible.

  3. Tighten the clamp bolt to the lowest torque value specified by the shifter or handlebar manufacturer.
Probikeshop tip: Always respect the lowest torque value to avoid damaging the handlebar during fitting or in the event of a crash.

  4. Repeat steps 1 to 3 to fit the other lever, making sure both levers are parallel and at the same height.
Probikeshop tip: use the graduations on the handlebar or, failing that, a spirit level.

With the components now fitted, all that remains is to wrap your handlebar tape and adjust your derailleurs.
