To preserve the life of your MTB bottom bracket bottom bracket, it's important to maintain it regularly. With the new generations of bottom brackets, this maintenance has become relatively simple, and here's the proof.
- Time : 1h00
- Level : Easy
- Tools : Allen key set | Cleaner/degreaser | Cloth | Grease
Steps
REMINDER : Depending on the crankset model, some steps may vary. If in doubt, consult the manufacturer's manual.
-
a Remove the first crank from the crankset. If it's a Hollowtech II assembly, simply release the 2 BTR screws on the left crank, then unscrew the bolt at the end of the axle. If it's a GXP assembly, simply unscrew the screw at the end of the axle, which also acts as the crank extractor.
- Then remove the rest of the crankset.
-
b Clean the bottom bracket shell and axle with a degreasing agent.
-
c Grease the now-clean bottom bracket and axle.
- d Reassemble.
Your gearbox and crankset are now clean and greased. It's important to check play and tightness after your first ride. MTB.
