How to repair inner tubes?

You're bound to be faced with a puncture sooner or later, so it's certainly one of the first things you need to learn how to repair, so you don't have to keep changing tubes.

  • Tools : 2 tire levers | Pump | Repair kit (patch, glue, sandpaper) | Container filled with water

Steps

  1. After deflating the inner tube, lever out one side of the tire using the tire levers, starting from the side opposite the valve.
  2. Remove the inner tube.
    Probikeshop tip: mark the mounting direction to help locate any debris that may still be in the tire.
  3. Inflate the tire, then immerse it in water to locate the leak.
  4. Dry the inner tube, then use sandpaper to scrape the area of the leak to roughen the tube.
  5. Glue the inner tube over an area slightly larger than the size of the patch, to ensure that it is in complete contact with the glue.
  6. Allow to set for 5 min.
    Probikeshop tip: As the debris that pierced the tube is probably still in the tire, take the opportunity to check the inside of the tire with your hand. If you've identified the direction in which the tube is mounted, you'll be able to locate where it's supposed to go.
  7. Place the patch having first removed the protective aluminum part, then press it firmly against the chamber for a few minutes.
