The GHOST Story

Over 27 years of passion and fun!

Since 1993

Like many famous Silicone Valley companies, the German Ghost brand began life in a modest garage, between two friends. Uwe Kalliwoda and Klaus Möhwald, two young bicycle enthusiasts, had one goal: to build high-performance, innovative machines that were above all fun to ride. Uwe and Klaus began by selling and servicing bicycles at their university, before officially founding the company in 1993.

That same year, the two entrepreneurs released their very first creation: the Lector mountain bike. With a name directly inspired by the iconic Hollywood character, top-of-the-range components and a weight of just 9.9 kg, this model made a smashing entry into the market and set a real benchmark on the Cross-Country circuit.

Today, the company's headquarters are still located in Europe, where the adventure began, and more precisely in Waldsassen, a Bavarian town surrounded by lakes and forests particularly suited to mountain biking.

Part of the Accell group, which includes brands such as Lapierre and Raleigh, Ghost now employs over 330 people worldwide and offers a wide range of products, from cross-country and DH to enduro, road, trekking, electric, urban and children's bikes. The brand also designs women's bikes with geometry specially adapted to their morphology.

In 2008, cross-country racer Sabine Spitz became Olympic champion in Beijing (before winning silver 4 years later), propelling the brand to the forefront. Mainly manufactured in Europe, Ghost products are now world-renowned for their quality, elegance and performance.

Top-level teams

To ensure the ongoing development of the brand's bikes, Ghost engineers and designers are surrounded by ambitious cycling teams in search of mechanical perfection.

Factory Racing Team

In 2011, the Bavarian company founded its own international cross-country team with the aim of establishing close cooperation between athletes and manufacturers. Currently comprising five members (Barbara Benko, Anne Terpstra, Sina Frei, Lisa Pasteiner, and Caroline Bohé), the team has won numerous titles in national and international championships, as well as in the European Cup and World Cup.

Gravity

Team Gravity brings together three Four-Cross world champions (Tomas Slavik, Felix Beckeman and Michal Prokop) and two-time German champion Franziska Meyer. They are all keen mountain bikers, and have also distinguished themselves on other circuits, such as Tomas' victorious run on the Red Bull Monserrate Cerro Abajo 2020.
