How to choose road bike tubular tyres?
The tubular tyre system is something of the ancestor of the bicycle tyre. Less straightforward to fit than a clincher tyre system, it nevertheless remains to this day the lightest and most high-performing option, making it the ideal solution for competition. Your choice has a direct impact on the rolling efficiency and comfort of your bike — here is how to find your way around.

Types of tubular tyres
Beyond the technologies and options that vary by brand, there are two key characteristics influencing the choice: the casing and the width of the tubular tyre
The casing of the tubular tyre is made up of a weave of threads, usually nylon. The thread density is expressed in TPI. The higher the value a, the more supple, comfortable and generally lightweight the tubular tyre will be. The average value is around 220 TPI.
Finally, several widths a may be available for the same model. Until recently, 23 was the reference size. Narrower models were said to roll more efficiently, while wider ones were considered more comfortable. However, the latest generations of rims and tubular tyres have changed things, and it is now the 25 that offers the best weight/performance/comfort ratio.
Which tubular tyre for my riding style?
Generally speaking, tubular tyre fitting is recommended for competition-oriented use.
Regarding the tubular tyre casing, unless you are looking for uncompromising performance, we recommend selecting a model with puncture protection or at least an endurance version that will offer greater resistance.
If you are looking for a tubular tyre for wet conditions, there are a few models perfectly suited to this. However, bear in mind that on dry roads they generally wear quickly and offer less rolling efficiency.
In any case, make sure to select a tubular tyre with a width compatible with your rim and that fits within your frame.
