How to adjust the position of your mountain bike?

You've just finished assembling your bike, or the position on your mountain bike doesn't feel right? Here's how to adjust it.

  • Time: 30 min
  • Level : easy
  • Tools : Tape measure | Thin, rigid backing (notebook type) | Spirit level | Allen wrench set | Plumb bob

Steps

  1. Set the saddle height using the following formula: inseam height x 0.885 = "bottom bracket-saddle shell" saddle height.

  2. Adjust the saddle inclination so that it is horizontal. Probikeshop tip: for women, it's best to tilt the saddle slightly forward.

  3. With the crank of the mountain bike crankset horizontal, set the saddle back. Once seated on the saddle, use the plumb line to find the position so that the front of your knee is aligned with the pedal axle.

  4. For optimum braking power, position the brake lever about 2 cm from the grip and in line with the axis of your arm.

  5. Then place the MTB shifter under the brake lever, making sure it's easily accessible with your thumb.
Probikeshop tip Adjust these settings according to how you feel after a few rides.
