ODYSSEY Optis 27.5" Anti-Pinch Flat Tyre Insert without Valve

The ODYSSEY OPTIS MTB Pneumatic Tyre Insert (without Valve) offers an innovative alternative to traditional foam tubeless tyre inserts. The OPTIS (Odyssey Pneumatic Tire Insert System) relies on an independent inflatable insert, fitted inside the tyre and kept at a higher pressure than the tyre itself.

This design allows you to lower tyre pressure for improved grip and comfort on rough terrain, while maintaining excellent support thanks to the high-pressure insert. Odyssey recommends as a starting point reducing your usual tyre pressure by around 10% and inflating the OPTIS to around 25% above the desired tyre pressure. For off-road riding, the brand indicates that a pressure reduction of around 15% can also be considered depending on the rider and terrain.

In the event of a heavy impact, the OPTIS also forms a pneumatic barrier between the tyre and the rim, reducing the risk of pinch flats and rim damage. Its pressure also helps keep the tyre beads firmly against the rim, significantly limiting burping and air loss under hard cornering.

In the event of a puncture resulting in a complete loss of tyre pressure, the insert temporarily continues to keep the tyre seated on the rim. This run-flat function is designed to give the rider greater control while slowing down and coming to a stop; Odyssey specifies that it should not be seen as a way to continue riding normally on a deflated tyre.

Finally, unlike many foam inserts, the OPTIS is installed in a similar way to a standard inner tube. During inflation, the insert also pushes the tyre beads outwards, making them easier to seat on the rim. The system is available in 27.5" and 29" for MTB rims with an internal width of 30 to 40 mm.
