Description

Designed for Enduro/All Mountain biking, the ERGON SM women's steel-rail saddle is presented here in size S/M, suitable for riders with an ischial width of between 9 and 12 cm.

The German brand's ergonomic engineers have taken into account comments often made by female mountain bikers, to design a saddle adapted to their anatomy and the typical position used in mountain biking.

To reduce the pressure exerted on the genital area, which is the primary cause of discomfort in women's cycling, this ERGON SM saddle is wide open in the center to relieve the most sensitive areas. The wide nose describes a large V-shape from the rear of the saddle, to provide ample support space around this opening. The rather narrow rear of the saddle also preserves freedom of movement, especially when riding downhill.

This women's saddle is built around a tough nylon shell, which rests on chromoly steel rails. It uses comfortable orthopedic foam padding and a microfiber cover.

Here are a few tips on how to install your Ergon SM saddle properly:

Tilt (the most critical point)

Unlike some older-generation saddles, the Ergon SM Women has a slightly raised rear section and a hollow center channel.

Tip: Start with a perfectly horizontal adjustment. Place a spirit level along the entire length of the saddle (from the tip to the highest point of the rear).

Adjustment: If you feel excessive pressure on the front, tilt the spout down by a maximum of 1 or 2 degrees. Don't go too far, or you'll slide forward and your hands will have to support all your weight.

Saddle recoil

This saddle has wide support zones for the pelvic bones (ischials).

The test: In the pedaling position, your hamstrings should rest exactly on the wide, padded part of the saddle.

Adjustment: If you feel as if you're "falling" forward from the center channel, move the saddle slightly forward on the rails. If it feels like you're on the rear edge, move it back.

Saddle height

As the Ergon SM range's padding is firm but dense (orthopedic foam), the saddle crushes very little under weight.

Tip: If you're replacing a very soft or thin saddle, check your leg height. A saddle that's too high will cause a wiggle that cancels out the ergonomic benefits of the Ergon and creates friction.

Ergon

adaptation time

uses firm foams to offer better support over time.

A little Patience: It often takes 2 to 3 outings for your tissues to get used to the new pressure distribution. Don't change all the settings after 10 minutes.

The little extra: Make sure that the width (S/M in your link) corresponds to the distance between your ischials. If you've chosen this size, it's usually for a measurement between 9 and 12 cm. A saddle that's too narrow will make any adjustment uncomfortable, no matter how precise.

Beautiful but tough...

"Great design, but comfort-wise it's a plank of wood. Sorry to be so harsh, but after 15 years of regular mountain biking I've never experienced such a lack of comfort. And at this price. . . I insisted for 1 month before taking it apart. Too bad there's no money-back guarantee. On that note, enjoy the ride ;-)"
