How to choose your road bike electronic groupset?

One might think that a new generation of components brings new standards. To everyone's great satisfaction: not quite. Here nonetheless are the subtleties to be aware of when fitting an electronic groupset.

Fitting types for electronic groupsets

For fitting the levers and derailleurs, nothing changes — the current standards still apply.

Cable routing can be done in different ways. Either your frame is not designed for an electronic system, in which case everything can be run externally along the frame a — not necessarily the most aesthetically pleasing but possible. You will however need to be careful to position the cables so that they cannot easily be "pulled off".

Or your frame is designed for fitting an electronic groupset, in which case all cables and the hub (junction box) can be routed internally b, everything is then far better protected and more aesthetically pleasing.

For the battery, it is much the same. Either your frame is not designed at all for this type of fitting, in which case specific mounts exist, for example on bottle cage mounts. Or it is designed for it, with a bracket mount or the possibility of fitting it internally within the frame or even inside the seatpost.

Which electronic groupset to choose?

Beyond choosing the range and components as with a standard groupset, the choice will focus mainly on the type of fitting depending on your frame's standards.
