How to choose your cream or oil?

Cycling, in all its forms, involves physical commitment - to a greater or lesser extent - on the part of the cyclist. The intensity and heart that cyclists put into their outings can vary according to their profile, level, potential and objectives.

But there are solutions for everyone, especially those who put their heart and soul into their training and racing... creams, oils and other treatments - designed to prevent or relieve effort-related pain.

WHICH CARE PRODUCTS ARE RIGHT FOR CYCLING?

Several types of care products are available for cyclists and mountain bikers. Some, such as chamois creams, are specific to cycling, while others, such as muscle ointments, oils and soothing gels, have a more general purpose and can be used by a wide range of athletes.

Here are the different types of care offered to cyclists:

  • Chamois creams
  • Anti-chafing creams
  • Energizing, warming oils/creams
  • Repair gels
  • Relaxation creams
  • Cleansers

These different products are designed to be used before exercise, to prevent pain, or afterwards, to relieve irritated, aching or tired parts of the body.

Pre-exercise care

The chamois creams are the best-known cycling care products. They are formulated to prevent saddle soreness, overheating and irritation. Before a ride, apply a small amount of cream to the seat area. These creams are antimicrobial, fungicidal and bactericidal. Some are specifically formulated for women.

Visit anti-friction creams have a similar objective of preventing chafing on the most sensitive and exposed parts of the body. They are used by cyclists and other sportsmen and women, especially long-distance runners, to reduce and relieve friction on the inner thighs and feet, and prevent chafing and blisters.

Visit energizing muscle oils and creams can be used by athletes as a warm-up before sustained effort. Useful for preventing injury, these treatments are formulated to awaken muscles to exertion, stimulate blood circulation and improve fiber oxygenation. Their use as a pre-race massage is particularly recommended for cold-weather outings.

Post-exercise care

Les repair gels apply to areas of the body that have become irritated after a long outing.
Pleasant and soothing, they relieve pain locally and refresh damaged skin.

The clightening creams and toning creams are useful for recovery after long, intense effort. Applied as part of a prolonged massage, they help relax thigh and calf muscles.

Visit cleansing products - shower gels or hand cleansers - are general care products that can be used on a variety of occasions: after sport, a long session of bike mechanics...

WHAT CRITERIA SHOULD YOU TAKE INTO ACCOUNT?

In addition to their beneficial warming-up, soothing and recovery effects, some massage oils and creams are formulated to be water-resistant. This makes them ideal for use before rainy outings, as their properties will be preserved intact.

You should also be aware that some of these treatments are based on natural substances, with toning and energizing plant extracts.

Last but not least, it is of course essential to follow the manufacturer's instructions for optimal use of these treatments. These instructions detail precisely how to apply these creams (type, duration of massage).
